The Commonwealth Rowing Association was formed in 2018 to promote the sport of rowing within the Commonwealth community. The objectives of the CRA are:
- To encourage partnership working between national rowing federations of the Commonwealth united by the Commonwealth heritage, for the benefit of Commonwealth athletes, citizens and communities
- To encourage and assist in the development of rowing of all disciplines across Commonwealth Countries in cooperation with World Rowing
- To support and help deliver a Commonwealth Rowing Championships every four years, in principle in the year of the Commonwealth Games
- To be recognized by World Rowing and the Commonwealth Games Federation
- To promote rowing as a core sport in the Commonwealth Games
From an initial membership of 17 Commonwealth nations and territories, the CRA membership has (as of October 2022) grown to 38 member federations.
The current members of the Commonwealth Rowing Association come from all five regions of the Commonwealth: Africa, Asia, Americas, Europe and Oceania.
